The Warriors series by Erin Hunter (a collective pen name for authors Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, Tui T. Sutherland, and others) spans over 90 books across 8 arcs. This guide shows how naming conventions work within the established canon.
Warrior names follow a two-part structure established in the first arc, "The Prophecies Begin" (2003). The prefix describes a physical trait (Fire- for ginger, Gray- for gray coat), and the suffix represents a virtue or role (-heart for bravery, -claw for fighting skill). Leaders receive -star upon receiving their nine lives from StarClan, as seen with Firestar in "Firestar's Quest."
Erin Hunter developed distinct naming palettes for each Clan. ThunderClan uses forest imagery (Oak-, Holly-, Fern-). ShadowClan draws from darkness (Shade-, Night-, Raven-). RiverClan reflects water (Silver-, Splash-, Minnow-). WindClan uses moor themes (Heather-, Gorse-, Hare-). SkyClan, reintroduced in "SkyClan's Destiny," uses bird and height references (Cloud-, Feather-, Hawk-).
In the series, a cat's name changes three times. Kits receive names like Firekit (prefix + -kit). At six moons, apprentices earn -paw (Firepaw). After training, the leader bestows a full warrior name during a moonlit ceremony (Fireheart). Leaders add -star after visiting the Moonstone or Moonpool. Examples from the books: Rusty → Firepaw → Fireheart → Firestar.
Our database includes names directly from the series — such as Firestar, Bluestar, Graystripe, Silverstream, and Jayfeather from the original arcs — alongside thousands of original combinations that follow the same naming conventions established across "The Prophecies Begin," "The New Prophecy," "Power of Three," "Omen of the Stars," "Dawn of the Clans," "A Vision of Shadows," "The Broken Code," and "A Starless Clan."

Names are generated by combining prefix and suffix lists compiled from the Warriors series naming patterns. Prefixes reflect appearance or clan environment; suffixes reflect role or personality. Each name is generated on demand in your browser — no database or server is involved. The formula follows the same structure Erin Hunter uses across all Warriors arcs.
This site runs entirely in your browser. Saved names and battle votes are stored in your browser's localStorage — no data is uploaded to any server. We do not use cookies, tracking scripts, or analytics. No personal information is collected, stored, or shared.
